The IT Storage Services Manager may have management responsibility for a team.
He/she translates strategic business goals into operational strategies and work
plans. Works with sponsors and other stakeholders outside the function to
achieve cross-functional goals. Applies advanced and comprehensive functional
knowledge to resolve complex issues. Develops and implements changes to
processes. If in a technical role, work has a significant impact to the
overall project. Leads complex projects or initiatives which impact a
function, office, region/cluster and may have responsibility for decisions that
may affect them. Regularly interacts with Firm management.
Primary responsibilities of this role may include:
Works closely with PwC groups for the planning and monitoring of the Firm's
internal Storage Area Networks and its components including, but not limited to:
EMC Data Manager (EDM), Veritas Netbackup and other disk backup products
(ArcServe, etc.)
EMC Symetrix and other disk products (Centera, DMX, ATA, etc.)
EMC Connectrix and other switch products (McData, Brocade, etc.)
EMC Control Center (ECC) and other storage-related software (Connected,
Princeton Softek, Documentum, etc.)
Tape backup hardware and software
Responsible for the support and maintenance of the Storage Area Network(SAN)
and its components, including monthly and/or adhoc reporting of the SAN.
Responsible for EDM support and maintenance as well as other storage-related
project initiatives.
Ensure the success of the functional Systems teams, as it relates to storage.
Provide timely reporting to management and appropriate project managers and
keep them informed on all project issues and resolutions so as to ensure
accurate representation in high-level project meetings with project sponsors
and partners.
Maintain effective communications and relationships with members of Storage
Management, other PwC Development teams and PwC Clients; as well as
representing a liaison for them to ensure resolution of specific
storage-related issues.
Manage the support, maintenance and project activities with minimum supervision
from Manager of Data Storage Management & Recovery Services (DSMRS) and at the
same time should be able to ensure their involvement and those of the technical
experts to best meet the needs and objectives of the project, assignment, or
task. Excellent troubleshooting skillset, as it pertains to the data storage
product arena.
Develop functionality, monitoring and support expertise in EDM, Netbackup and
other backup solutions. Act as a contact for the Systems teams, for queries,
guidance and process and procedure related to storage functions and
capabilities. This would include the preparation and delivery of backup
solution-related topic presentations as information and education to other
teams.
Develop functionality, monitoring and support expertise in the Storage Area
Network (SAN) product set. Act as a contact for the Systems teams, for queries,
guidance, and process and procedure related to storage functions and
capabilities. This would include the preparation and delivery of SAN
solution-related topic presentations as information and education to other
teams.
Develop functionality, monitoring and support expertise within content
addressable storage (CAS) product set. Act as a contact for the Systems teams,

Job Description:
This position is a critical part of the on-site Managed Storage Services Team. The Storage Manager's role is the most significant on-site role and is responsible for the operational performance of the customer's storage infrastructure and the client relationship. The Storage Manager is responsible for ensuring that the MSS (ITIL based) processes are followed at all times and that our client consistently meets or exceeds the Service Level Agreements that have been negotiated with the client. Those chosen for this role must have a variety of skills to include technical, communications, process, and financial. Those chosen for this key role should have a strong history of managing in a performance based environment and a strong background in managing and motivating teams in a matrix environment. Fundamentally, the Storage Manager must have the following three competencies: technical competency in the data center/storage arena, process skill and analytics, communications and management skills. Principal responsibilities: primary interface for all customer contact related to the services contract, primary P&L accountability for the performance of the service contract, ensuring that our client complies with the SLAs in place with the client, managing the storage administration team that handles the day to day operational assignments of the storage infrastructure for which our client is responsible, enforcing compliance (established policies, practices, and processes) defined by our client for managing storage, analyzing and reporting actual to contracted SLA performance levels, analyzing the operation for continuous improvement, reporting monthly to the MSS Operations Manager on all operational items defined in the Run Book, analyzing and planning capacity requirements and reporting as required.
Technical skills must include extensive experience with disk storage arrays (OUR CLIENT, STK, Compaq, SUN, Hitachi Data Systems, and/or others); Veritas and/or Legato is also desirable, thorough understanding of SAN, NAS, and CAS technology as well as strong understanding of all aspects of the data center production environment to include storage management, capacity planning, configuration management, performance management, systems automation, facility management, asset management, problem management, change management, backup and recovery, business continuity planning, and availability management. Candidates must have 5 or more years of industry experience working in MIS/data center management and production systems support within a large corporate data center setting (Fortune 500 Corporation). Candidates must have full understanding of file systems, disk partitions, mounts, quotas, and storage security. Management skills must include strong process knowledge and enforcement in an operational environment with familiarity of ITIL being a strong plus. Candidates must also have proven team management abilities, strong analytical skills with an emphasis on performance and financial management, and experience with managing in a performance based environment. Prior experience with managing to SLAs will be a plus. Candidates must be able to prioritize projects and deliverables and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A Bachelor's degree and 10 or more years of data center/storage management (with a proven history of demonstrable success) are required. Some travel may be required.
